70% of Lithuanians Support EU Membership

Lithuanian citizens overwhelmingly support their country’s membership of the European Union, a recent poll commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has shown.The level of support stands at 70 percent and is not diminishing. In a similar survey six months ago, 71 percent of the interviewed supported Lithuania’s membership of the EU.

The average support of 70 percent has remained unchanged since 2004.

The public opinion poll was carried out by Vilmorus Public Opinion and Marker Research Centre on 3-12 December 2010.


Under the survey, 1003 adult citizens were interviewed in 17 cities and 51 villages of Lithuania.

The survey has been conducted under the project “Increasing Effectiveness of Lithuania's EU Affairs System” funded by the European Social Fund.
