Ambassador Andrius Kalindra held an introductory meeting with the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili
On 30 October, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, H.E. Mr. Andrius Kalindra held an introductory meeting with the President of Georgia, H.E. Ms. Salome Zourabichvili and presented his diplomatic credentials. The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace in Tbilisi.
Lithuania and Georgia enjoy very close bilateral political dialogue and practical partnership across a number of spheres, namely in the area of foreign and security policy, cultural and academic exchange, economics and trade, innovations and renewable energy initiatives. Lithuania will further consistently support Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and will work together raising this issue in international fora.
Lithuania commends active Georgia’s participation in Eastern Partnership policy and very much values input in shaping the post-2020 EaP policy. Lithuania is ready to work together in order to set long-term tangible objectives and solidify the Partnership. Gradual integration of Georgia into the EU Single Market remains an ambitious goal ahead of the Eastern Partnership Summit 2021.
During the meeting, Ambassador Andrius Kalindra expressed full Lithuanian support for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, underlining that Lithuania highly appreciates Georgia’s significant contributions to NATO’s international operations and missions and remains strongly committed to the decision of 2008 Bucharest Summit regarding Georgia’s membership at the alliance.
Ambassador also stated the wish of the Lithuanian side notwithstanding the pandemic situation to deepen high level political dialogue formats between the two countries, including at the level of the heads of states and heads of governments.
The discussion also focused on the stability and security issues, including the current situation in Nagorno Karabakh, underlining the importance of consolidated efforts to support international and regional peace and security initiatives, where Georgia together with its European allies has an important role to play.
Ambassador additionally noted, that upcoming Parliamentary Elections to take place this Saturday remains very important for further democratization of Georgia. Expressed his confidence that it will be held in accordance with the established international standards.
