Ambassador Andrius Kalindra held introductory meetings at Georgian Technical University

On 6 November 2020, Ambassador Andrius Kalindra visited Georgian Technical University to make introductions with the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center operating under the auspices of the University and meet the Rector of the University, Mr. Davit Gurgenidze.

Ambassador met with the leadership and students of the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center, headed by Mr. Vidas Kavaliauskas, taking a look at their premises, discussing years of successful partnership between the Center and the Embassy, as well as putting forward future plans of continued cooperation. “For eight years now, the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center has been successfully preparing ambitious Georgian students who want to learn Lithuanian, initiating projects, getting to know Lithuania and its culture, encouraging them to discover study opportunities in Lithuania and thus contributing to particularly close bilateral relations and people-to-people contacts. I have no doubt that even during the pandemic this interest in the Lithuanian language will continue to grow,” the ambassador said during the meeting.

In addition, it was noted that Lithuanian Language and Cultural Center at the Georgian Technical University would be ready to contribute to joint initiatives on issues of historical remembrance, the role of national minorities in strengthening of statehood of Georgia and Lithuania.

During the meeting with the Rector of the University, Ambassador expressed gratitude for consistent cooperation of the University with the Embassy and handed over letters of appreciation signed by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr. Viktoras Pranckietis to the Rector of Georgian Technical University, Professor Davit Gurgenidze, Chancellor of Georgian Technical University, Mr. Karlo Kopaliani, Head of the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center, Professor Vidas Kavaliauskas and the President of the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center, Mr. Irakli Dudauri. Discussion also focused on the possibilities of further expanding partnership and introducing even more of Lithuanian culture to Georgian audiences.

The Lithuanian Language and Culture Center was established at Georgian Technical University in October 2012. It is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Lithuania and also receives support from various state institutions of Lithuania. Around 350 students have studied at the Center at different points of time starting from 2012 to date.
