Ambassador Andrius Kalindra Held Meetings at the Parliament of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia

Today Ambassador Andrius Kalindra met with the Chairperson of the European Integration Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Ms. Maka Botchorishvili. Ambassador congratulated Ms. Botchorishvili on her recent appointment as a Chairperson of the Committee and discussed a number of issues related to Georgia’s European future.

Discussion covered the issue of the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in 2021, in terms of which Ambassador confirmed Lithuania’s support towards Georgia. It was noted, that there is a mutual interest in elaborating ambitious plans of proposing to expand EU’s cooperation with the Eastern Partnership states, including Georgia. Ms. Botchorishvili affirmed that Georgia’s European foreign policy course is irreversible.

Ambassador and Ms. Chairman also underlined the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia, including on the basis of the foreign policy resolutions recently adopted by the Parliaments of both countries, in which both countries expressed their wish to continue and bolster strong partnership.

Today Ambassador also held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mr. David Zalkaliani, personally delivering the copy of the letter by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Mr. Gabrielius Landsbergis.

In the letter, Minister Landsbergis confirms Lithuania’s commitment to the Eastern Neighborhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership initiative of the European Union, pointing out that Lithuania stands ready to translate this into actions. In that regard, the Minister informs that with Lithuanian initiative, a letter co-signed by 13 EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs has been created, directed to the European Commission and calling to set up a COVID-19 vaccine-sharing mechanism to allow the Eastern Partnership countries, namely Georgia, to secure early access to COVID-19 vaccine.

Lithuania will continue supporting economic integration and political association between the European Union and Eastern Partnership states.
