Ambassador Andrius Kalindra met with the Chairpersons of the Environmental and Foreign Affairs Committees of the Parliament of Georgia

On January 21 Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra met with Maia Bitadze, Chairperson of the Environmental Committee of the Georgian Parliament, and Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

During the meeting with Ms. Bitadze, the main focus was on the discussion of environmental issues in Georgia. Ambassador A. Kalindra presented Lithuania's achievements in the sectors of waste management and recycling, energy efficiency, operation of the deposit system, and green economy. Ambassador noted that for several years in a row, Lithuanian companies have been successfully implementing renewable energy - solar module installation projects in Georgia. The Chairperson of the Environment Committee mentioned that the issue of ecology in Georgia is gradually becoming more and more important, therefore they are constantly working with international partners to achieve the goals set in the European Union Association Agreement and to ensure a healthy environment for their people.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze emphasized the successful co-operation between the two countries in the fields of politics, culture, youth, education and science, and thanked Ambassador for Lithuania's continued support and strategic partnership. He also noted the strong inter-parliamentary relations that he hoped to develop further in the future. During the meeting, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee N. Samkharadze and Ambassador Kalindra discussed security issues in the South Caucasus region, the implementation of Georgia’s European integration and Euro-Atlantic aspirations in the run-up to the Eastern Partnership Summit in March 2021 in Brussels.
