Ambassador Andrius Kalindra met with the chairpersons of the Parliamentary Committees of Georgia

On January 20 Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra met with Tea Tsulukiani, Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science and Culture of Parliament, and David Songulashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy.

During his meeting with Ms. Tsulukiani, Ambassador noted the potential to strengthen and deepen the intensive cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia in the fields of education, as well as historical memory and culture. For years already, the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center has been operating at Georgian Technical University, where Georgian students study Lithuanian, and later continue their study in Lithuania. There are Georgian language centers in Vilnius University and Vytautas Magnus University, where Lithuanian students get acquainted with the culture and language of Georgia. The participants of the meeting agreed that the opportunity to deepen people-to-people contacts could be given to students from both countries.
 
In a meeting with David Songulashvili, Chairman of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee, the focus was on the potential for economic recovery in both countries following the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Songulashvili noted that it was important for Georgia to revitalize the services sector, and the tourism sector in particular, as well as the importance of attracting foreign investment. Another important focus is on possible EU mediation to speed up the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines.
 
Ambassador A. Kalindra emphasized Lithuania's achievements in the renewable energy and green economy sectors, emphasized the readiness to share good practices in the fields of environmental protection, garbage management and packaging deposit, circular economy and other areas.
