Ambassador Discussed NATO-Georgia Relations and Future Cooperation at the NATO Liaison Office

On 9 March 2021, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra and Military Attache of the Republic of Lithuania, LTC Nerijus Tamošaitis held an introductory meeting with the Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia, Ms. Rosaria Puglisi. The meeting took place at the NATO Liaison Office premises.

Discussion during the meeting addressed the topic of NATO-Georgia cooperation in its current form, as well as plans for the future. Ambassador and Ms. Puglisi exchanged their views about Georgia’s progress on its path to NATO, focusing on the continuous support by the Alliance at large, as well as Lithuania in particular with regard to Georgia’s aspiration to become part of the Euro-Atlantic family.

Another topic was the persistent issue of borderization along the occupied territories of Georgia. Ambassador and Ms. Puglisi expressed support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, also speaking about the need of the international community to play its role in addressing the situation in this regard.

Security situation within the Black Sea and South Caucasus region and recent shifting realities were also covered in the conversation, with the sides stressing the importance of consistent policy approaches on the part of NATO and its individual member states, assisting the enhancement of defensive capacities of close partners in the region.

Lithuanian Government is extensively contributing to the NATO security initiatives in Georgia through the Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC) platform as well as in the field of capacity building through the work of Colonel Gintaras Bagdonas who serves as NATO Liaison Officer to Georgia.
