Ambassador met the Minister and Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia

On April 14 Ambassador Andrius Kalindra met the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mr. Irakli Karseladze and the Deputy Minister Ms. Mzia Giorgobani.

During the meeting, the Minister briefly outlined the most important ambitious infrastructure projects carried out by the Ministry with the support of international financial institutions in the fields of road construction, municipal infrastructure, modernization of education institutions, drinking water supply and protection of cultural heritage. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, most of the projects could be completed faster than planned, the minister said.

The Ambassador, acknowledging Georgian progress in this area, noted that Lithuania is interested in cooperation with Georgia in the development of infrastructure projects in the country and would like to share its experience gained in this area, mentioning first among the Baltic countries LNG terminal “Independence”, electricity connection lines under the Baltic Sea with Sweden and connection with Poland, gas and electricity infrastructure development projects. Lithuania also made a breakthrough in the field of waste and garbage management, co-generation plants for waste incineration are operating in the three largest cities, and large investments in landfill management are being made. This is also important in the context of Georgian's application for membership of the European Union and of the European Union's environmental and sustainable environmental policy.

The Minister expressed interest in the initiative of Lithuanian companies which offer their experience and assistance in the fields of landfill management, biogas, water treatment. It was agreed to exchange related information and hold relevant meetings at the level of specialists.
