Ambassador met with the Minister of Defence of Georgia
On March 22, 2021, Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Defence of Georgia, Juansher Burchuladze. Defence attaché of Lithuania to Georgia, LTC Nerijus Tamošaitis, also participated in the meeting. The meeting took place at the premises of the Ministry of Defence.
During the meeting Ambassador pointed out that in the field of security and defense, Georgia is one of Lithuania’s important partners. Lithuania plans on maintaining political support and continuing cooperation with Georgian military and the defense sector, which will help carry out necessary reforms in Georgia, also sharing Lithuania's useful experience.
Lithuania will maintain high-level contacts and keep up support for Georgia in multilateral formats, in particular with the view of consolidating support for EU instruments used in the defense sector, including the newly adopted European Peace Facility Initiative.
The main directions of bilateral military cooperation are military training and education, cyber security, joint participation in exercises, and support to the NATO programs in Georgia. NATO and Lithuania, as one of the members of the alliance, remain committed to contributing to the security of the Black Sea region through various activities. At the same time, Lithuania will continue introducing its best practices with regard to hybrid threats with its close friend in the region – Georgia.
