Ambassador Participated in Information Campaign to Encourage COVID-19 Vaccination in Georgia
On 7 September 2021, Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, together with fellow Ambassadors of Estonia and Norway, participated in the joint campaign organized by UNICEF in partnership with the local Government of Kakheti region, Ministry of Education and Science and National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia. The events within the campaign took place in the Office of Kakheti Government Administration in Telavi and Telavi history Museum.
Ambassador Andrius Kalindra together with the Ambassadorial colleagues and organizers of the event met with the governor of Kakheti region, Mr. Irakli Shioshvili and discussed the on-going vaccination campaign in Georgia and the region of Kakheti specifically, also presenting the current Lithuanian experience in vaccination process.
Afterwards, the campaign continued by meeting with school personnel and health practitioners of Akhmeta, Telavi, Lagodekhi and Kvareli Municipalities in a panel format, during which the participants spoke about the central role of the vaccination process in defeating the pandemic and going back to normal day-to-day life. In his address, Ambassador Andrius Kalindra underlined the noticeable benefits of vaccination as experienced by Lithuania, noting that 54.85% of the overall population of Lithuania has been fully vaccinated against COVID 19, enabling the state to lower the level of regulations and go back to more-or-less conventional life. “Thanks to the development of science we have today a tool that effectively protects us and our loved ones from various infections. We have had a number of vaccines since school and no one doubts their effectiveness. Vaccination is the only right way to defeat the COVID virus,” Ambassador stated.[i]
During his visit, Ambassador also held a meeting with the Mayor of Telavi, Mr. Shota Nareklishvili, discussing bilateral cooperation between the city of Telavi and its sister cities in Lithuania – Raseiniai and Kėdainiai. Continuing and deepening cultural relations as well as building on the past success of the Embassy’s cultural events in Telavi was also one of the key points of the conversation.
