Ambassador Paslauskas: Lithuania Will Continue Advocate For Maximizing NATO’s Assistance To Aspirant Countries

Lithuania will continue advocate for maximizing NATO’s efforts and assistance to aspirant countries in their integration process, Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Jonas Paslauskas told the participants of Georgia Defense Conference in Batumi this Wednesday."In our view, NATO needs not only keep the door open, but also continue working with aspirant countries actively assisting them with preparations for membership," said the Ambassador.

High ranking officials from Government of Georgia and abroad, including U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Celeste Wallander, Director General of International Military Staff of NATO Jurgen Bornemann, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Vytautas Umbrasas, and foreign diplomats, were attending the conference.

The sixth Georgia Defense Conference, organized by the Georgian Ministry of Defense, has become a key place to discuss Georgia’s progress in implementing defense sector reforms, Georgia’s security issues and future challenges to the Euro-Atlantic integration process.

Starting from 1st of January this year, Lithuania has been selected as a NATO Contact Point Embassy in Georgia and will keep this position till the end of 2012.
