Ambassador Visited Dusheti and Met Newly Elected Mayor

On 3 December 2021, Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, visited Dusheti and held a meeting with the recently elected Mayor of Dusheti, Ms. Manana Narimanidze.

Discussion between the Ambassador and Mayor focused on fruitful cooperation between the Embassy of Lithuania and Dusheti Municipality, which already counts several years. Dusheti has hosted a number of Lithuanian cultural events, including photo exhibitions, paintings, concerts and creative workshops. It is worth mentioning that Dusheti also hosts a Lithuanian Cultural Center established in 2017. Cooperation between the Embassy and Dusheti Municipality is set to gradually move further forward, with the help and support of the new Mayoral Administration.

During the visit, in terms of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Ambassador also delivered a donation from Embassy diplomatic and administrative staff to the Pirmisaantkari Disabled Persons’ boarding school in Dusheti Municipality.

Lithuania has implemented several development cooperation projects in Dusheti Municipality, most notable of which concerns the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) village of Prezeti, which had its cultural center and kindergarten powered by renewable solar energy panels installed by Lithuanian companies, with support from Lithuanian government institutions. Another project also covered the installation of solar power grids in IDP villages outside Dusheti as well.

Dusheti has friendship and cooperation memoranda with Lithuanian cities of Šakiai and Prienai, covering fields such as culture, education, sports, business, tourism and more.

Ambassador has confirmed readiness to further enhance cooperation with Dusheti Municipality, thus, to further contributing to the people-to-people contacts between the municipalities of Lithuania and Georgia.
