Ambassador’s Meeting with the Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee of Georgian Parliament
On March 16, 2021 Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra met with Anri Okhanashvili, Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. The meeting took place at the Parliament of Georgia premises.
During the meeting Ambassador and Chairman discussed Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the role of the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament in delivering the necessary legal approximation within the framework of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia. Ambassador pointed out the Committee’s role in taking the lead in transforming Georgian legislation in line with the EU aquis for increased compatibility, which is a necessary part of Georgia’s path towards the European family.
The topics of protection and strengthening of fundamental human rights, freedoms and democratization were also addressed at the meeting. Ambassador Kalindra acknowledged the importance of undergoing judicial and electoral reforms bringing the legislative norms in line with the internationally endorsed best practices. It was noted that these reforms are an important element of ongoing political dialogue that is so much supported by Lithuania.
