Anniversary of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Constitution Marked in Georgia
On 2 May 2022 anniversary of 3 May 1791 Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Constitution was marked by joint event of Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian Embassies in Georgia with the performance of Polish Ukrainians traditional music ensemble Wernyhora.
At the opening of the concert Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia Mr. Andrius Kalindra delivered a speech to the audience, pointing out the significance of the occasion – the adoption of what is considered to be the first European constitution, establishing values and principles that were ahead of its time - democratic decision making, inclusiveness, rule of law, devotion to freedom and fundamental human rights and the superiority of international law.
Noting that the Constitution of 1791 was at that time also aimed at curtailing Russian Empire’s malign influence against the free world of that era, Ambassador expressed strong Lithuanian support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Georgia, once again stating Lithuania’s commitment to the European future of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova.
Ambassador Kalindra thanked his polish counterpart, Ambassador of Poland, Mariusz Maszkiewicz, and Director of the Polish Institute, Mr. Lech Konczak for their efforts in organizing the beautiful event.
An open-air concert by Wernyhora will also be held on 3 May 19:00 in Mziuri Park amphitheater for the wider audience.
