Choir “Pro musica” in Georgia will introduce Lithuanian music and world classics

Choral classics, works of contemporary composers, Lithuanian music as well as broadly known popular songs - all this repertoire will be introduced to Georgian audience by Vilnius University Choir “Pro Musica”. Visiting Tbilisi for the first time, “Pro Musica” will hold two concerts in the capital of Georgia – at the Tbilisi State University on 4th June and at the Technical University of Georgia on 5th June.

„During four years of activity the choir has built a rich repertoire; the Georgian audience will be presented with the most interesting compositions, which reveal not only Lithuanian choral culture but also the world classic jewels“, says the director of „Pro Musica“, Rasa Gelgotienė.

According to Ms. Gelgotienė, the one-hour program is compiled to feature choral music from world classics to Lithuanian folklore and popular contemporary music in a diversity of styles and epochs. The program will start with a composition by Juozas Naujalis and will go on with Anton Bruckner‘s and Sergey Rahmaninov‘s religious chants.

They will be followed by works of contemporary Lithuanian composers, Jonas Tamulionis, Zita Bruzaite and Konstancija Brundzaite, which reveal folklore motifs. The program will end with the globally popular songs – Spanish “Cantares” and American “Keep your lamps” and “The lion sleeps tonight”.

The internationally acclaimed Vilnius University Choir “Pro Musica” was founded in 2004, and has given concert tours in Italy, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Cuba and Mexico ever since. The choir has presented programs of Renaissance and Baroque music as well as programs featuring works by Spanish, Nordic and American composers.

“Pro Musica” has released two CD recordings featuring choral music of North and Baltic Sea countries and the universally popular “Misa Criolla (Creole Mass)”, written by a world-famous Argentinean composer Ariel Ramirez.

During several years of its activity the choir has gained a series of important awards. At the International Choral Competition in Spain in 2004, “Pro Musica” received the third prize for the compulsory program and the special prize for the best performance of samba. In 2005 “Pro Musica” became a laureate of the Golden Bird Award in the New Star category. This nomination in Lithuania singles out a new choir for outstanding achievement attained during a short time period.
