Commemorating the 13 January 1991 events in Georgia: we remember why we are free

On 13 January members of the Lithuanian community, their family members and friends commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Freedom Defenders' Day, lighting up a symbolic bonfire of remembrance in the Vilnius Square, Tbilisi.  

In the honor of the victims of the tragic events of 13 January 1991, Lithuanian community sung national anthem, Georgian students read poems by Lithuanian poets.

Earlier this week Lithuanian community was also invited to run or walk a special and symbolic route in Tbilisi – from Vilnius Square to Tbilisi TV Tower. This route assimilates “On the path of life and death” traditionally run in Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Tens of Lithuanians, their relatives, friends from the diplomatic representations of US, Ukraine, France, Czech Republic, Latvia and Estonia have completed this route and shared their impressions. Participants were given gifts of remembrance.
