Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the events of January 1991

Tomorrow in Tbilisi we will also remember why we have been free for 25 years already and pay tribute for those who sacrificed their lives for our Independence.

Events of January 1991 were significant in in the history of Lithuania. They proved our nations will to be free and independent. The wish was much stronger than tanks and guns of the aggressor.

The events will be commemorated:

On January 13th, 2016 at 12.00 Ambassador Giedrius Puodžiūnas together with the speaker of Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili will lay a wreathe at the April 9th memorial .

At 17.00 at the National library the reflections on the events of January 1991 „25th Anniversary of the Defense of Freedom of Lithuania“ will take place with the members of Georgian Parliament, NGO, journalists, students, diplomats.

Starting from 19.00 Tbilisi TV tower will  get lit by Lithuanian national colors to commemorate all who took part in our fight for freedom.

In the evening Georgian National TV1 will broadcast a documentary „Trajectories of Freedom“ by John Ohman about the long way of Lithuanian nation towards their independent State.

The commemorations will end by the interview with first speaker of the free Parliament of Lithuania, professor Vytautas Landsbergis at 20.30.
