Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations was celebrated in Tbilisi
On 20 February 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia celebrated the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Georgia together with the diplomatic corps residing in Tbilisi, representatives of Georgian institutions and the Lithuanian community in Georgia. During the event, Georgian singer Mariam Makarashvili, an alumna of the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center in Tbilisi, impressively performed the anthems of Lithuania and Georgia. The evening program was continued by performers from Lithuania, Rokas Zubovas and Sonata Zubovienė, who performed two of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis's most famous pieces on the piano - "Miške" and "Jūra" for the gathered guests. The performers also performed "Sunset Overture" by Georgian composer Zakaria Paliashvili from his most famous opera "Daisi". Apart from the musical pieces, Sonata Zubovienė read Excerpts from M.K. Čiurlion's literary texts, which presented the relationship of the Lithuanian genius with nature and a deeply humanistic worldview.
During the event, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, as a part of his congratulatory speech, reminded that on February 16, 1918 Lithuania restored its state so that the inhabitants could once again enjoy freedom. He also presented that the thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Georgia, which will be celebrated in 2024, is complemented with the ongoing political dialogue between Lithuania and Georgia, ongoing smooth cooperation in cultural and academic activities. However, in addition to this important event, the year 2024 also marks the twentieth anniversary of Lithuania's membership in NATO and the EU and the opening of the Lithuanian Embassy in Georgia. The Ambassador thanked the members of the Lithuanian community for their support, ideas and joint projects.
The event was honored with the visit by the Vice Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Georgia, Jonas Survila and Alexandre Khvtisiashvili, who expressed their satisfaction with the friendly relations between the countries, smooth cultural and academic cooperation and the mentioned thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations.
