Delegation of Alytus district municipality visited Ozurgeti

On 16-19 August, the delegation, headed by Mr. Algirdas Vrubliauskas, the Mayor of Alytus district, visited Georgia. This visit is a part of the project "Development of the peripheral regions on the basis of the cooperation between Alytus district (Lithuania) and Ozurgeti (Georgia)”.

During the meeting both municipalities shared their experience of strategic planning, financial management, project implementation and business support. The specialists of the municipality of Alytus district presented the methodological guidance on strategic planning and management of decision-making process. Working groups defined the concept of the model of regional development.

Georgian side presented the activities of a nut-processing company, organic farming, trout-breeding farm, and introduced a variety of tourist facilities in Ozurgeti region.

"Our municipalities need to improve the management of human resources and administrative capacity, so that the peripheral region could attract more investments" – stressed Mr. Algirdas Vrubliauskas, the Mayor of Alytus district.

Once the development model of Ozurgeti municipality is prepared, it will identify the existing benefits as well as obstacles for further development. It will also assess the existing financial and human resources and will determine the most effective way to use them. Such model will be also available for other municipalities in Georgia.

In 2009 Lithuania and Georgia signed a bilateral Charter for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, which envisaged the strengthening of ties between municipalities. Currently other municipalities of Lithuania and Georgia are also discussing the possibilities of deeper cooperation.
