Deputy Minister M. Adomėnas discussed the political situation in Georgia and the condition of former President M. Saakashvili with representatives of Georgia’s non-governmental organizations
On 19 November, Deputy Foreign Minister Mantas Adomėnas met with Eka Gigauri, Director of the Georgian Branch of Transparency International, Nino Dolidze, Director of the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED), and Giorgi Burjanadze, Deputy Ombudsman of Georgia.
During the meeting, the situation in Georgia after the municipal elections, the activities of non-governmental organizations aimed at increasing the involvement of civil society, the rule of law and respect for human rights were discussed.
The meeting also focused on the state of health of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and the conditions of his imprisonment. "The international community is closely following Saakashvili's situation, and now is the critical moment for appropriate decisions to be taken. We hope that the decision of the European Court of Human Rights regarding interim measures and the recommendations of the Ombudsman of Georgia regarding him will be implemented,” Deputy Minister M. Adomėnas noted.
The Vice Minister and members of Georgian NGOs agreed to continue the ongoing dialogue
