Embassy of Lithuania invites you to join in commemorating 13 January 1991 events

On 13, January 2020 Lithuania is commemorating thirty years after the tragic events of 1991, when unarmed Lithuanian citizens defended recently restored Lithuanian Independence against brutal soviet occupation forces and their aggression. While defending TV Tower, fourteen Lithuanian citizens sacrificed their lives, hundreds were injured. The unimaginable courage and freedom aspiration helped achieved this historical victory, after which the final collapse of the Soviet empire followed.

Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Georgia invites to commemorate this important date together with us:
  • Join us in running/walking special and symbolic route here in Tbilisi – from Vilnius Square to Tbilisi TV Tower. This route assimilates “On the path of life and death” traditionally run in Lithuanian capital Vilnius. The tribute run is organized to express respect and gratefulness to the victims of 13 January 1991. In accordance to current security regulations, everyone is invited to conclude this route individually or with family members. Send a photo to us (DATbilisi@KAM.LT) of your finish time on route and the picture at TV tower. The best time will get a gift. Route links: FB event link, “Google” map route link, “Wikiloc” route link, “Strava” segment link.

January 13, 1991, was part of Lithuania's systemic efforts to restore its independence, to come back to the family of democratic countries, and continue building a modern European state. Today this is how Lithuania is. Currently, some countries around the world are struggling for freedom and democracy, including neighboring Belarus.
