Eurostat: Lithuania EU's Fastest Growing Economy

Lithuania's gross domestic product (GDP) was growing fastest in the European Union (EU) in the second quarter of this year, the data published by the European Union statistics agency Eurostat has revealed.

 

According to Eurostat, Lithuania's economy in the second quarter of 2010, as compared to the first quarter the same year, increased by 3.2%. The second fastest growing EU economy in the second quarter was Germany (2.2%), followed by Estonia, Finland and Sweden (1.9%).

 

The fastest growing segment of Lithuania's economy was the construction sector (80.8%). Agricultural production grew by 32.4%, public administration sector – by 7.4%.

 

Meanwhile, industrial production contracted by 1.1%, followed by financial intermediation sector which declined by 1.9%.
