Freedom defenders day commemorated in Georgia
Freedom defenders day was commemorated today in the Residence of the Ambassador of Lithuania. Members of Lithuanian community in Georgia together with other Lithuanians, who have been working or studying in Georgia, remember the events of the night of 13 January 1991 and observed the minute of silence honouring the deaths of 14 fellow citizens.
“Today we remember fourteen people that we are proud of. They came to protect the governmental buildings without thinking about being heroes. Fate chose them to sacrifice for Lithuania. Only now we know that we are the strongest when we are together, and we need to be remain together"- said Ambassador Jonas Paslauskas."What happened in Lithuania twenty one years ago, is not yet over We witnessed it in in Georgia three years ago"- said J. Paslauskas.
Participants of the event not only watched the historical video clips of events that took place in Vilnius in 1991, but also watched the documentary by Russian director Andrei Nekrasov about the events in Georgia in 2008.
