Lecture on NATO in Zugdidi
Today H.E. Jonas Paslauskas, Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, visited Zugdidi (Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, western Georgia). The Ambassador met with the students and professors of the Shota Meskhia State University and gave a lecture “NATO after Lisbon Summit”.
Ambassador J. Paslauskas stressed the fact that in during the Lisbon Summit Georgia got a status of a future alliance member.
"Currently the most important thing for Georgia is to continue its reforms, to remain a reliable partner of the Alliance and to actively expand the circle of friends" - said Ambassador of Lithuania.
H.E. J. Paslauskas also stressed the importance of common values: "The Alliance is best characterized not by weapons and its military capabilities, but by the values that are shared among its member states. The simplest example could be even obeying driving rules. Of course, this is just a small part of our everyday life, but such issues are important. All our countries can be characterized by the way our residents observe common rules and norms of behavior, how much they respect each other, can they keep their word and how much they can be trusted. I wish Georgia to cherish such values".
From 1 of January 2011, Embassy of Lithuania in Georgia acts as the NATO Contact Point Embassy. One of the priorities of the Embassy is paying regular visits to the regions of Georgia and holding meetings with local communities about the activities of the Alliance, its goals, objectives and relations with Georgia.
