Lithuania-Georgia Trade Climbs to Record Highs in Q1 2011

  Trade between Lithuania and Georgia reached a record high in the first quarter of 2011 and accounted for nearly LTL33 million (EUR9.5 million), the data published by Statistics Lithuania has revealed.

The largest growth was registered in Lithuania's imports from Georgia, which have grown by 3.3 times and totaled LTL15.2 million (EUR4.4 million).

Lithuanian exports to Georgia remained almost unchanged and amounted to LTL17.6 million (EUR5.1 million).

The main driving force behind the growth in bilateral trade was the import of fertilizers from Georgia, which amounted to LTL8.4 million. The other main categories of import include alcoholic beverages (LTL3.8 million) and fruit and nuts (LTL2.4 million).

Lithuanian exports to Georgia entailed, among other things, automatic data processing machines (LTL3.2 million), monitors and projectors (LTL2.4 million), electronic assemblies (LTL1.6 million), sealing, labeling and other packing machinery (LTL1.4 million), and motor cars (LTL1.2 million).

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, in the first quarter of 2011 Lithuania was the 18th largest market for Georgian exports in the world and the 7th largest in the European Union.

The data by Statistics Lithuania shows that Georgia has occupied the 42nd place on the list of the largest markets for Lithuanian exports in the first quarter of 2011.

 

The Lithuanian national currency, litas, is pegged to the euro at the rate of 3.4528 to 1.
