The fastest growth of the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet subscribers in Europe was registered in Lithuania, a study by FTTH Council Europe has revealed.
Almost 21 percent of Lithuania’s households are connected to the new-generation fiber-optic internet – an increase by 3.3 percent as compared to the data six months ago.
FTTH network was growing faster only in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In June, Lithuania was far ahead of such technologically advanced European countries as Sweden, Norway and Slovenia, which, according to a published rating, took 2nd-4th place.
Estonia ranked 7th place, while Latvia – 11th.
Lithuania remains Europe’s absolute leader by the share of the users having direct access to fiber-optic networks (about 16 percent of all internet users), while in some other European countries fiber-optic cable often stops at the door of a building and the signal is further distributed via regular LAN.
