Lithuania values Georgia’s contribution to NATO’s international peace and security initiatives

On 1 February 2021, Ambassador Andrius Kalindra held a meeting with the Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Beraia. The meeting took place at the Parliament of Georgia.

During the discussion, Ambassador once again reaffirmed to the Chairman that Lithuania strongly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, also being a firm proponent of NATO’s open-door policy towards Georgia. He stated that Georgia’s territorial integrity remains on the list of Lithuania’s foreign policy priorities. Ambassador Kalindra further pointed out that Lithuania stands with Georgia in terms of its aspirations towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Chairman Irakli Beraia thanked the Ambassador for Lithuania’s dependable support, expressing that Georgia values this friendship between the two nations. Mr. Beraia also stated that despite changing security environment within the region, Georgia, as an active member of the international society, remains committed to the values of democracy.

Topics of mutual interest that were part of the discussion also included global security challenges and the situation in the Black Sea region. Ambassador and Chairman spoke about boosting cooperation framework between Lithuanian and Georgian national security committees. Issues of strategic security and defense planning legislation were also addressed during the meeting.
