Lithuanian Ambassador meets the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations

On August 17, 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Nikoloz Samkharadze. During the meeting, bilateral relations between Lithuania and Georgia, as well as relations between Georgia and the European Union and ways of their further development were discussed.

The sides have exchanged their views on international and regional security, the epidemiological situation in the country. During the conversation, Lithuanian side once more underlined  that in the light of the continuous Russian aggression, Lithuania continues to support Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration and reaffirms Lithuania’s readiness to support  the territorial integrity of Georgia. The Ambassador has also noted that it is very important for everyone to support the initiators of regional security in the international organizations. During the meeting the current situation at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border was discussed in detail. It was said that Lithuania was able to mobilize resources to stop the influx of illegal migrants into the country. The Lithuanian side has expressed concern over the entry into force of a cooperation agreement between the Georgian State Security Service and the Belarusian State Security Committee.

“The fact of deepening of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Belarusian security structures is concerning and it is directed against European values and neighbouring countries, including Lithuania”, - said ambassador.

The pandemic in the country was also discussed during the meeting. It was noted that Lithuania contributed to the fight against COVID -19 and donated to Georgia 15,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. Additional assistance options are being considered.
