Lithuanian Armed Forces Day Marked in Tbilisi

On November 26, Lithuanian Armed Forces Day was marked in Amirani cinema, in Tbilisi. Members of Georgian Armed Forces, state institutions and international community participated in the event together with soldiers of the Lithuanian Army School of the Division General Stasys Raštikis and officers from the headquarters of the LITPOLUKRBRIG who are currently participating in international military exercise ‘Mapple Arch 2021’.

First Deputy Defence Minister of Georgia, Lela Chikovani, congratulated Lithuanian Armed Forces on the holiday. Greetings were also expressed by the Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra and Defence Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, LTC Nerijus Tamošaitis.

A documentary film 'Invisible Front' was presented and shown to the guests, telling a story about Lithuanian freedom fighters acting underground in 1944-1953. Guests of the evening had a chance to learn more about the painful part of Lithuania’s history, when armed resistance was taking place against the Soviet occupation. The film reveals a story of one of the leaders of the resistance - Juozas Lukša-Daumantas, with the story line based on the general flow of events of that time, letters, stories and memories of people.

Guests were also congratulated by one of the directors of the film, journalist and translator of Swedish origins, Jonas Ohman who came to Lithuania 30 years ago. Film 'Invisible Front' is not the first work of this director that is related to Lithuania. Paying a tribute to relations between Lithuania and Sweden, he translated several Lithuanian books to Swedish language among which are the books of Jurga Ivanauskaitė and Jurgis Kunčinas. In 2007, Jonas Ohman was awarded with the Felicija Bortkevičienė Language Prize for his work in fostering and popularizing the Lithuanian language and culture in Lithuania and abroad.

On November 26, discussion organised by the Embassy of Lithuania to Georgia and Free Russia Foundation in South Caucasus took place on the topic 'Georgia and Ukraine - Resilient Communities vs Sharp Power of the Kremlin', moderated by the head of Free Russia Foundation in South Caucasus, Egor Kuroptev. Opening speeches were delivered were made by Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia Andrius Kalindra, Ambassador of Estonia to Georgia, Riina Kaljurand, Ambassador of Ukraine in Georgia Ihor Dolhov and director, publicist Jonas Ohman. With the invitation of the Embassy and the Free Russia Foundation, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Georgia, members of civil society, and non-governmental organizations of Georgia took part in the discussion.
