Lithuanian Armed Forces Day Marked in Tbilisi
On November 24, 2022, a reception for celebrating the Day of the Armed Forces of Lithuania was held in the building of the Tbilisi City Council, hosted by the Defense Attaché of Lithuania in Georgia, LTC Donatas Rupšys, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra.
Embassy partners, friends, representatives of Georgian state structures and diplomatic corps were invited to the reception. The guest of honor at the reception was the Deputy Head of the Defense Forces of Georgia, Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze.
During the welcoming words addressed to the guests, attention was focused on the strong partnership between Lithuania and Georgia in the field of defence. Special areas of cooperation were highlighted, such as Lithuanian contribution to NATO SNGP initiatives in Georgia, Ministry of Defence of Georgia’s contribution to Regional Cyber Security Center in Kaunas in the field of cyber threat analysis along with American, Ukrainian and Polish colleagues and the recent visit of the Lithuanian Defense Minister to Georgia, within the framework of which a Joint Communiqué was signed by the Lithuanian and Georgian Minister of Defence. By highlighting the strategic partnership between the countries, the Ministers in the document condemned the Russian occupation of Georgia’s regions, ongoing aggression against Ukraine, as well as to support Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
The Ambassador of Lithuania, Andrius Kalindra, emphasized the importance of security cooperation for countries like Lithuania and Georgia and paid tribute to the sacrifice of the Georgian military personnel in international missions under the auspices of NATO, as well as the brave struggle of Georgian volunteers in the war in Ukraine.
