Lithuanian Armed Forces Day Marked in Tbilisi
On December 6, 2023, a reception in celebration of the Day of the Armed Forces of Lithuania was held in the building of the Tbilisi Museum of Modern Art, which was hosted by the Defense Attaché of Lithuania in Georgia, Lieutenant-Colonel Donatas Rupšys and the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra. The reception was also dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the creation of the Armed Forces of Lithuania.
Embassy partners, friends, representatives of Georgian state structures and diplomatic corps were invited to the reception. The guest of honor at the reception was the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia, Ms. Lela Chikovani.
During the welcoming words addressed to the guests, attention was focused on the strong partnership between Lithuania and Georgia in the field of defense. Special areas of cooperation were identified.
In their speeches, the defense attache, the ambassador and the guest of honor emphasized the importance of security cooperation for countries such as Lithuania and Georgia and paid tribute to the sacrifice of the Georgian military in international missions under the auspices of NATO. The speeches also touched on the many successful military exercises that Lithuania and Georgia have participated in with other partner countries over the past year.
The ambassador and the defense attaché drew attention to the brave struggle of Georgian volunteers in the Ukrainian war and spoke about Lithuania's strong support for Ukraine, considering that Ukraine is fighting not only for its freedom, but also for the freedom of Europe.
The Georgian folk ensemble "Khareba" from Gurjaani provided music for the evening. The ensemble performed the anthems of Lithuania and Georgia, as well as several compositions from their own repertoire, which were highly appreciated by the guests.
