Lithuanian Children in Georgia Will Have a Possibility to Watch LTV World

Starting from this week, the programs of the Lithuanian national broadcaster's satellite channel LTV World will be available to the students of the Lithuanian-language Sunday school in Tbilisi. LTV World’s programs will be broadcast at the home of the president of the local Lithuanian community Zina Karukhnishvili, where the school is originally located.

“Members of the community and the youth meet at our place on Sundays. They talk to each other, share the news, and also take Lithuanian language lessons. It is therefore very important that from now on they will be able to watch live programs in the native Lithuanian language,” says Karukhnishvili.

To install the satellite equipment in Tbilisi costs about 260 lari (150 dollars), which for many Lithuanians living in Georgia is a great luxury.

The expenses of the Lithuanian school were covered by Director-General of Lithuanian Radio and Television Audrius Siaurusevičius, who paid the costs of satellite antenna and other related equipment.

"Usually in October the autumn’s cornucopia arrives in Georgian homes; but this time LTV World has arrived," says Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Jonas Paslauskas, who visited the school this Sunday.

Ten children are taking Lithuanian language lessons at the community’s Sunday school.

The Lithuanian community in Georgia "Rūta" was established in 1996. Since 2000, the president of the community is a cardiologist from Kaunas Zina Karukhnishvili

LTV World was put on air in September 2007. Currently it includes the best programs of the Lithuanian Public Broadcaster’s First and Second channels. LTV World can be watched across the whole Europe from the Atlantic to the Ural Mountains, as well as in Canada and the United States.
