Lithuanian Christmas Gift to a Disabled Georgian Girl from Khashuri

On Christmas Eve the Embassy of Lithuania in Georgia has presented a wheelchair to thirty-years-old Iza Javakhishvili from Khashuri IDP collective center. The purchase of the wheelchair in Lithuania and its transportation to Georgia was arranged by a famous Lithuanian television host Edita Mildažytė.

Javakhishvili has been suffering from acute epilepsy since early childhood and is not able to move independently.

"I met this girl this spring when our team was collecting material for a charity event to help IDP children of Georgia," remembers Edita Mildažytė.

"Her family had been struggling to buy a wheelchair for many years, but it’s become completely impossible after they were expelled from home by the occupant army in 2008. We have promised to help, and here you are!” tells Mildažytė.

"I want to thank the people of Lithuania, who in this period of economic crisis does not forget those in need and seek to help them," Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Jonas Paslauskas said at the wheelchair transfer ceremony.

Roughly 2,000 war refugees at present live in Khashuri district.

During a charity campaign "LithuaniaGeorgia. One Heart" this spring, Lithuanian citizens and business companies donated about 250,000 litas ($100,000) to help the children of Georgian IDPs.

Thanks to the funds raised, 230 Georgian children have already undergone medical treatment and approximately the same number is still waiting for their turn.
