Lithuanian Days In Saqartvelo Will Rock Georgia’s Regions Next Week

A one-week program of events presenting Lithuania to Georgian society will start on Monday, October 18th. The program includes three public lectures at different universities, meetings with representatives of nongovernmental organizations, as well as cultural events and get-togethers with local communities in four regions of Georgia.

During the week, a leading authority in the science of Lithuanian history, Professor Alfredas Bumblauskas, will give a public lecture at Gori and Kutaisi universities. A famous journalist Edita Mildažytė, who this spring organized a highly successful charity concert to help the IDP children of Georgia, will hold community meetings in Kobuleti, Jvari (Tsalenjika Municipality) and Terjola. She will be accompanied by a famous Lithuanian jazz vocalist Neda Malūnavičiūtė.

Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius will join the program on Friday, October 22nd. He will deliver a public lecture at the Tbilisi Ilia Chavchavadze University titled "From Sarmatia to Eastern Partnership: Searching for European Identity."

On Saturday, October 23rd, a reconstructed library will officially open in Khashuri, Central Georgia. The library was renovated with the help of Lithuania's development cooperation program and the donations of Lithuanian business companies.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend various events in Georgian municipalities during the Lithuania week.

Events will be accompanied by an extensive information campaign through national and local media.

The project is implemented by "Eastern Europe studies centre". The project is supported by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
