Lithuanian Film and Culture Festival “Window to Lithuania” to be held in Tbilisi for the first time
On May 28-29, Tbilisi residents and guests will have a unique opportunity to enjoy the two-day film and culture festival "Window to Lithuania". Lithuanian culture, art, sports and traditions will be presented during the event, which will take place in Tbilisi Mziuri Park.
"Window to Lithuania" is an extraordinary cultural festival, which will take place for the first time in Georgia, Tbilisi, where a synthesis of Lithuanian art will be presented. The Georgians and Lithuanians have an inexplicably strong and warm friendship. Therefore, the festival will be a great opportunity to unite all Lithuanians and friends of Lithuania in Georgia, to give a celebration and a good mood during this difficult period of the pandemic,” says Ringailė Leščinskienė, one of the event organizers.
The festival “Window to Lithuania” will provide an opportunity for the Tbilisi audience and the Lithuanian community living in Georgia to hear a combination of Lithuanian modern music with ‘Sutartinės’ - Lithuanian Multipart Songs - and improvisations. The initiator of the unique "Electronic multipart songs" project - musician, member of the Lithuanian group "Skamp" Viktoras Diavara will perform together with local musicians and the audience?
The director of the project Artūras Jevdokimovas, who studied film directing at the Theater and Film University in Tbilisi 30 years ago, is glad to have the opportunity to return here again and contribute to the wider presentation of Lithuanian cinema to Georgians.
The event will also feature contemporary jazz works by the Lithuanian National Defense Volunteer Force Big Band, which started its activities in 1991. Group led by Capt. Ričardas Čiupkovas brings the sound of music to public events by spreading the international language of music, cultivating cultural values and raising the prestige of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
Residents of the city are invited to watch internationally acclaimed Lithuanian films in the open air and meet with film directors. The program includes director Giedrė Žickytė's documentary "How We Played the Revolution", Lithuanian-Georgian Director Marija Kavtaradze's debut film "Summer Survivors" and Marius Markevičius' film about the importance of sports in the restored Lithuania - "The Other Dream Team".
A program of animated educational short films for children and their parents is also waiting for the young visitors of the festival. Discussions will take place with Lithuanian artists and the local community.
The festival seeks to convey a unique identity of culture, cinema and music in the European context. By creating new connections, the project provides an opportunity for developers living in different countries to meet and exchange experiences. "This event is a gift from Lithuania to the city of Tbilisi on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day," says Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra.
The organizers of the two-day festival are the Lithuanian communities of Georgia “Labas” and “Rūta”, the event is funded by the Lithuanian Culture Council and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia. The partner of the event is Tbilisi City Municipality.
