Lithuanian-Supported Protection of Human Rights in Occupied Territories of Georgia Conference took place in Tbilisi
On November 21, in Tbilisi, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania, a conference organized by the Social Justice Center on Human Rights in the Occupied Territories of Georgia was held. The Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Andrius Kalindra, addressed the participants and attendees of the conference with a welcome speech.
The Ambassador spoke about Lithuania's firm support to Georgia in terms of the occupied territories, respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, and in this regard he also emphasized the foundations of Lithuania's foreign policy, which are: freedom, human rights, rule of law and multilateralism. The Ambassador expressed his concern for the systematic and serious violations of human rights on the occupied territories, including the most recent tragic example in this regard - the murder of Tamaz Ginturi, and noted the need to eliminate impunity in this regard.
The conference explored the systemic challenges to the protection of human rights in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region under temporary occupation. The first panel provided an overview of the current situation in the occupied territories of Ukraine within the broader context of Georgia. Throughout the conference, high-level representatives from political and diplomatic services shared their assessments and positions on the legal and political dimensions of human rights protection policies under occupation. In addition, insights were provided into the efforts undertaken by the respective governments in this regard.
