Lituanistic center in Georgia

A ceremony of opening of the Center of Lituanistics took place at Georgian Technical University. This initiative was financially supported by the Ministry of science and education of Lithuania. Professor Vidas Kavaliauskas from Lithuanian University of Educational Science will hold lectures of lithuanian language.

 

H.E. Mr. Jonas Paslauskas, Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, welcomed the students and the professors of GTU. Ambassador was glad to see so many young georgians having interest to learn one of the oldest Indo-European languages. Mr. Paslauskas underlined that knowledge of lithuanian language will provide broader opportunities for studies and employment.

"When Georgia joins the EU, young specialists from Georgia will be able to use their skils in the job market. Knowledge of additional official languages of the EU will create more opportunities. Let one of those languages be Lithuanian" - encouraged Ambassador.

According to the professor V. Kavaliauskas, Center of Lituanistics will be open for students from various universities. Professor was impressed with students‘s high interest in Lithuanian language, so it is possible that a bigger Baltic Center could be opened next year.

At this moment 57 students are attending the Lithuanian language courses. Five best students will have an opportunity to visit the summer courses of Lithuanian language in Lithuania next year.
