Memorandum of Understanding Signed between the Interior Ministries of Lithuania and Georgia
On 23 April 2021, the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, represented on a Ministerial level, by Ministers Agne Bilotaite and Vakhtang Gomelauri, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Area of Home Affairs, in 2021-2022. Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, together with his Georgian counterpart, Ambassador of Georgia to Lithuania, Levan Ghvachliani, also participated in the signing ceremony held in an online format.
The Memorandum of Understanding in question builds on the past successful areas of cooperation and corresponding documents signed between the relevant state structures of Lithuania and Georgia, seeking to further expand partnership in the areas such as home Affairs, in particular, emergency management, professional training and education, fight against cybercrime, road safety, forensics, criminal intelligence, border management, migration, civil service and European integration.
The Memorandum also envisages continuing and further strengthening activities designed to share experience between the partners in terms of common projects and programs, working visits and trainings, as well as other forms of cooperation suggested by any of the Parties on an ad hoc basis. The Parties agreed to explore and pursue the opportunities of participation in the European Union instruments, such as TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange) and Twinning projects, financed by the European Commission.
International Cooperation Group from the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia were tasked with being the main coordinating units for facilitating cooperation in terms of the newly signed Memorandum.
