Minister A. Anušauskas expresses lasting support to Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration during trip
On October 24 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas underscored at a meeting with Minister of Defence of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze that Georgia was one of Lithuania’s most important partners among Eastern Partnership format nations and that Lithuania was prepared to continue the defence cooperation and step up the contribution to NATO programs as part of the comprehensive support to Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
“We support Georgia’s path of Euro-Atlantic integration and we make comprehensive contributions with our experience and expertise so that the Defence Forces of Georgia are brought closer to Euro-Atlantic standards,” said Minister A. Anušauskas.
As Lithuania’s support to Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration was underscored, it was also noticed that it was crucial Georgia further pursued the reform.
Ministers also discussed the Russian war in Ukraine and the necessity to ensure comprehensive support to Ukraine. In the course of the meeting A. Anušauskas paid tribute to the 24 Georgian national who laid their lives for the freedom of Ukraine.
Ministers also signed a joint declaration in condemnation of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the Russian occupation of parts of the country and in expression of readiness to continue the defence cooperation.
While in Tbilisi, A. Anušauskas also visited the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center. According to Minister, Lithuania will continue strengthening the contribution to NATO training programs in Georgia as well as in other areas – military training, exercises, cybersecurity, reform of the mandatory military service.
