NATO Corner has opened in Khashuri (Central Georgia) this Thursday. It is located in the premises of a local public library, which was renovated with the help of Lithuanian Development Cooperation Program.
A discussion “Georgia and NATO” was organized on the margins of the opening ceremony, to which both Ambassador Jonas Paslauskas of Lithuania and Ambassador Andris Vilcans of Latvia were invited. Latvian Embassy was acting as a NATO contact point embassy to Georgia in 2009-2010.
NATO integration experience and the challenges that Georgia is confronting were discussed at the meeting. The guests also took the questions from the audience.
NATO Corner in Khashuri is already the third NATO corner in Georgia, in the opening of which the Embassy of Lithuania participates. On 7 of March NATO Corner was opened in Ergneti (Central Georgia), just 500 meters from the administrative boundary line with the Tskhinvali region. On 9 of March NATO Corner was opened in Kutaisi.
Starting from this year the Embassy of Lithuania is acting as a NATO contact point embassy in Georgia. Informing the public about NATO’s goals and activities is one of the key tasks.
