NATO Corner Opens in Kutaisi

NATO Corner has opened in the second largest city of Georgia, Kutaisi, on Wednesday. It is located in a private Georgian-American school "Progress." The opening ceremony was followed by a discussion “The Importance of Euro-Atlantic Integration Process”, to which the Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Jonas Paslauskas was invited as a keynote speaker.

The ambassador overviewed the process of Lithuania's integration into NATO, summed up the experience of the first years of the membership, and took the questions from the audience.

"How partners assess you is not the only most important thing; no less important is your determination to follow the path of democratic reforms and become a mature and stable democracy. Integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures is just a means to achieve this objective," noted Ambassador Paslauskas.

NATO Corner in Kutaisi is already the second NATO corner in Georgia to open this week. On 7 of March NATO Corner opened in Ergneti, Central Georgia, just 500 meters from the administrative boundary line with the Tskhinvali region.

Starting from this year the Embassy of Lithuania has taken over the functions of NATO contact point embassy in Georgia. Informing the public about NATO’s goals and activities is one of the key tasks.

Lithuanian Embassy in Tbilisi will serve as a NATO Contact Point Embassy till the end of 2012.
