President Adamkus Boulevard on the Black sea coast

The President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus was honored by the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on the 1st of June in Anaklia resort where an official Valdas Adamkus boulevard was opened, and a memorial board solemnly unveiled.

, stretching along the Black Sea for 3 km towards Batumi town.

 

V. Adamkus was thankful for this gesture and stressed the close ties between two countries.

 

“History of Georgia and Lithuania has much in common. We have both celebrated the victories and mourned for the losses. Most important – we have chosen the same route of building our future: future of independence, democracy and reforms” - stated V. Adamkus.

 

M. Saakashvili noted in his speech that the guest from Lithuania has accomplished a tremendous work in elaborating relationship between two countries. Georgian leader was grateful to V. Adamkus for the support during the war between Georgia and Russian Federation.

 

M. Saakashvili underlined that Georgian people would never forget efforts of V. Adamkus, as he was one of the first politicians who arrived in Georgia in order to help during the military conflict with Russia in 2008.

 

"Valdas Adamkus openly declared his support to us during the most grave time for Georgia" – said M. Saakashvili.

 

President Valdas Adamkus has already been granted with one of highest awards of Georgia - 1st degree Vakhtang Gorgasali Order - for the development of friendly relations between Lithuania and Georgia and for the support in the international arena.
