Thirteen conceptual projects of the main square of Khashuri were developed by the third-year students of the Department of Architecture and Land Management at Kaunas University of Technology. All of them participated in a contest.  

During all summer works of the students were exhibited in the building of Khashuri Municipality. Authorities and the residents of the city voted actively in choosing their favorite project.

Most of the votes were given to the project, which was jointly prepared by Ms. Dominyka Sluckute, Ms. Laura Masiotaite, Ms. Eleanora Plepyte and Ms. Neringa Mataciunaite. It is planned to use this project for the reconstruction of the main square of Khashuri.

“During my frequent visits to Khashuri, I have heard many questions about the fate of the main square of the city, which has lacked attractiveness. We suggested to invite Lithuanian experts to prepare few sketches. Frankly speaking, I was pleased to see how much interest these works received”- said H.E. Jonas Paslauskas, ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia.

“The project concepts have exceeded all our expectations. It is under question mark if we could have looked at this main area of the city so bravely and creatively” - noted Mr. Mamuka Mosiashvili, Head of Khashuri Municipality.

Embassy of Lithuania has implemented several development cooperation projects in Khashuri city. For example, the public library was renovated and opened in the city centre this spring. Some time later a NATO information corner was also opened in the premises of the library. Now this place is serving as a cultural space, has new courtyard where citizens can read newspapers and access free internet.

Cooperation with Kaunas University of Technology is one of the examples of Embassies plans to involve other agencies, universities as well as private companies in the development cooperation activities in Georgia.

In 2010, the Embassy of Lithuania allocated 153 000 litas (approx. 45 000 euros) to the development cooperation projects in Georgia.
