Statehood Day of Lithuania was commemorated in Georgia

On 3-6 July 2021, virtuoso Lithuanian performers folk song artist Ms. Veronika Povilionienė and saxophonist Mr. Petras Vyšniauskas held a number of performances in Georgia, delivering cherished pieces of Lithuanian folk culture with modern twists to Georgian audiences.

On 3 July, Ms. Povilionienė and Mr. Vyšniauskas held an open-air concert in the central park of the town of Dusheti. The concert was attended by local population of Dusheti and invited guests from the municipality, as well as the leadership of local self-government, including Dusheti Mayor, Mr. Zurab Sekhniashvili and ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia Mr. Andrius Kalindra. Parallel to the concert, a photo-exposition by a famous Lithuanian photographer, Marius Jovaiša, entitled ‘Unseen Lithuania’, was also presented at the venue.

On 4 July, distinguished artists visited the Lithuanian Language and Culture Center led by Professor Vidas Kavaliauskas, operating under the auspices of Georgian Technical University,. A meeting was held with Georgian students who learn Lithuanian language, and the leadership of the Center, with views exchanged on the representation of Lithuanian culture and songs performed together with the students.

The gem of the tour was 6 July concert held in the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, where Ms. Veronika Povilionienė and Mr. Petras Vyšniauskas performed together with a well-known Georgian folk singer, teacher and TV host, Mr. Giorgi Ushikishvili and together with the group Lashari, who have charmed listeners both in Georgia, as well as outside of it for many years. Three performers together created a unique and memorable evening revealing the cultural links between Lithuania and Georgia. The concert was attended by the representatives of Georgia’s governing structures, diplomatic corps, Lithuanian community of Georgia and invited friends of the Lithuanian – Georgian partnership. The concert was opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia, Mr. Andrius Kalindra and the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Archil Talakvadze.

Ambassador Kalindra at his welcoming speech noted, that ‘the current bilateral partnership highlights the unique character of the long-standing friendship between Georgia and the Republic of Lithuania, encompassing strong political dialogue, active economic and cultural relations, as well as close people-to-people ties. And, this Lithuanian - Georgian folk music trio is just another prove of a special bilateral relations that both countries enjoy.

The exhibition by Marius Jovaiša, entitled Unseen Lithuania was also installed for the guests to enjoy.
