The Lithuanian - Georgian cultural forum has taken place in Tbilisi

In 2024, from May 20 to May 25, Georgia became a vibrant hub for cultural exchange as it hosted the Lithuanian-Georgian Cultural Forum. This event brought together professionals from various fields including theatre, cinema, photography, and literature to share their perspectives on the deep-rooted ties between Lithuania and Georgia. The forum was organized to commemorate 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, highlighting their enduring friendship and cultural connections.

On the initiative of the Embassy of Lithuanian and Georgian Friendship, the first publicly available Lithuanian literature fund was opened at the Georgian National Parliamentary Library. Over 100 books by Lithuanian authors were donated to the Sakartvelo National Parliamentary Library, which will be enjoyed by library readers.

The forum reached its pinnacle with a mesmerizing trip to Kazbegi, where the guests and students of Lithuanian Language and Culture Center participated in a reading of the legendary work Užkeiktieji vienuoliai (The Cursed Monks) by the renowned Lithuanian writer Antanas Vienuolis. The enchanting landscape of Kazbegi provided the perfect backdrop for this literary fusion, making the experience truly magical. Esteemed actor Mr. Vladas Bagdonas added to the allure by joining the readings, further enriching the cultural exchange.

The Georgian audience was also treated to a visual feast with the screening of two iconic spectacles by the legendary theatre director Eimuntas Nekrošius, Pirosmani, Pirosmani and Macbeth, presented in video format. Additionally, three documentary films about Nekrošius offered deeper insights into his extraordinary contributions to theatre. Furthermore, attendees had the unique opportunity to meet and interact with Mr. Vladas Bagdonas, adding a personal touch to the event.

The Lithuanian-Georgian Cultural Forum 2024 was a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations, celebrating their shared heritage and fostering mutual understanding through the arts.
