Transparency International Has Published 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index, Lithuania Goes Up

The global non-governmental organization Transparency International has published its 2010 Corruption Perception Index, in which Lithuania scores 5.0 points and gets a 46th place among 178 countries. In 2009, Lithuania's Corruption Perceptions Index was 4.9 (52nd place), in 2008 – 4.6 (58th), and in 2007 – 4.8 points (51st).

In 2010 Corruption Perceptions survey, the top three positions are taken by Denmark (9.3), New Zealand (9.3) and Singapore (9.3), while Afghanistan (1.4), Myanmar (1.4) and Somalia (1.1) are the last on the list.

Estonia’s Corruption Perceptions Index in 2010 stands at 6.5 (26th place), Poland’s – 5.3 (41st), Latvia’s – 4.3 (59th), Russia’s – 2.1 points (154th).

Georgia has collected 3.8 points and ranks 68th.

Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index grades the world nations by their understanding of the level of corruption existing among civil servants and politicians. It is concluded on the basis of the surveys carried out in the business and expert communities.

To determine a country's corruption perceptions index, the current situation is measured against a ten-point scale, where 0 means "completely corrupt", and 10 – a "very transparent" country.

2010 Corruption Perceptions Index was calculated on the basis of 13 different studies published by 10 independent international bodies.
